How is 'Colorhue' applied to fabrics?

Easy Coloring

Applications of the Colorhue' dyes are easy, fast and efficient because these particular dyes require no setting procedures, (such as timing prerequisites or heat processes) in order to complete the coloring. This dye does not require powders to mix or any additional chemical additives to augment the liquid dye. The only additive needed is plain tap water to dilute the concentrated liquid colors.

(There aren't enough toxic chemicals incorporated in the 'Colorhue' dyes to make them dangerous. If you wish more information about the MSDS makeup of the dye or paint products, contact Things Japanese for added details).

The 'Colorhue' is a very concentrated dye—approximately 15 to 20 drops of the concentrated dye in a 1/2 cup water will make medium color.

In order to color silk, merely place the 100 % silk fiber into the dye bath and in seconds the silk will rapidly soak up the color. After dyeing the fiber rinse it under running water to remove vestige of dye. Simply dry the fiber and it is permanently dyed. The Colorhue Instructional Guide, available in the Colorhue Sampler gives more specifics of the dye, its uses and simple dip dye and over dye processes.

There are many easy dye applications for silk fabrics such as crunching, pleating, tucking, folding, gathering, and shirring. Because the 'Colorhue dyes are so fast acting, they travel to creases, easily. There are so many ways of manipulating the dyeing processes, it is impossible to give detailed descriptions of all of them.

'Colorhue' is Colorfast

Most care labels attached to silk garments will note 'dry clean only'. This labeling protects the manufacturer from their own dye processes because many dyes will be affected by washing or cleaning chemicals.

The colors of these dyes are colorfast because you have personally been responsible for those coloring processes. The 'Colorhue' allow the fibers to be hand washed and can be dry cleaned effectively. More information is available in the 'Colorhue' Sampler instruction guide concerning hand washing, drying, ironing, and dry cleaning processes.

Recycling with 'Colorhue'

Since 'Colorhue' is a transparent dye, it is an excellent choice as an overdye coloring agent. It is easy to dye over the existing colors of any silk ,rayon. linen or wool fiber. This will add new coloration and life to the textile and, at the same time, recycle precious fibers.

Color Mixing with 'Colorhue'

Unfortunately, it is impossible to give specific dye mixing formulas. Variances of fabric weave and weight, specific dyeing projects, and many other factor will alter tints, shades and tones of any of the 'Colorhue' colors. Although it is helpful to place the mixed colors on a paper towel to get an idea of the hue created, it is important to practice the color on the fabric of choice for your project. An important tip--the dyed fabric will be two times lighter when dry than when wet.
